"We have approximately 285 waterbeds. Some we have had since the year 2000 when part of the barn was built. In 2015 we added an expansion double the langth of the old barn and put waterbeds in there. Then again in 2016 we built another dry barn and put waterbeds down there too. We had cows with hock sores that were so blown up which is why my Dad wanted to try the waterbeds. We have seen a night and day improvement from having waterbeds.

We milk between 50 and 60 cows. We installed the Promat PackMat with sand on top. At first I was pretty hesitant at going the sand rout because to me sand was deep bedded. And I didn’t really like the idea of putting a mat underneath it. But when I saw it in barns and heard other farmers testimonials on how little sand they go through, as well as seeing the contour of the stalls being held without the cows digging, I knew that’s what I wanted.

Cow comfort matters because a comfortable cow makes milk. And when a cow makes milk, I make money, and that’s kind of the goal. We milk about 280 cows and installed the Comfort Mat with 3 inch foam by Promat between 10 and 12 years ago. The foam stays soft and squishy, and the cows seem to like it. Their hocks look good. If these mats do wear out, hopefully in another 15 years, I would install Comfort Mat again.

We are a 550-cow operation and have Promat Pasture Mats for the majority of our herd. The cows are a lot more comfortable with the Pasture Mats than other solutions, because the loose rubber does not shift. Installing Pasture Mats made a big improvement in productivity and cow life, by roughly 20%, which is very profitable. I don’t know of any other mat that would be better than the Pasture Mats.
