Installing DCC Waterbeds

Custom Fit

DCC Waterbeds are made and tested to strict quality standards. Each bed arrives rolled up and is unrolled and aligned in each stall.

During setup, installation teams carefully position the bed in place before securing it with durable stainless-steel and aluminum components that ensure long-lasting stability. The bed’s seal prevents leaks, guaranteeing dry and comfortable conditions for your animals. After filling the bed with water, a brisket locator helps make sure cows lie in the correct position, maintaining proper posture and comfort.

DCC Waterbeds can be installed in new builds or retrofit projects for free stall barns, providing consistent support that minimizes pressure points and reduces injury and stress on your herd.  Our experienced sales teams and Engineering department can support you every step of the way to ensure correct fit and optimal performance.

Installation Basics:

  • DCC Waterbeds arrive rolled up for easy shipping and handling.
  • Most dairy farmers will already have the essential tools on hand: a hammer, utility knife, drill, hose, and related equipment should you wish to install the mattresses yourself
  • After the waterbeds are unrolled and positioned properly, they are held in place with durable hardware.
  • The waterbeds are filled using an on-farm water source and a fill meter kit. Proper fill amounts will be provided in the instruction manual to ensure optimum comfort for your herd. Waterbeds are then sealed with a three-part closure to lock in the water.
Professional installation ensures your DCC Waterbeds deliver superior comfort and durability for dairy cows, improving herd health and productivity for years to come.

Trust DCC Waterbeds for adaptable installation in dairy barns everywhere.

Helping Cows Adapt to DCC Waterbeds

Introducing your herd to DCC Waterbeds is a straightforward process. To make cows feel at home, add your preferred top bedding (such as kiln-dried sawdust or chopped straw) and, if desired, a light dusting of manure to provide familiar scents. This helps signal safety and comfort, encouraging even the most cautious cows to relax and enjoy their new environment.

Day 1 Bedding

On installation day, generously cover each DCC Waterbed with 2–4 inches of your chosen bedding material. As your cows adjust and you become confident in their cleanliness, gradually reduce the bedding depth to save time and resources while maintaining a healthy, clean barn.

Effortless Daily Care

Routine maintenance is simple: remove soiled bedding from the waterbeds, top up with clean, dry bedding as needed, and scrape alleys at every milking or as required for robotic or heifer barns. This easy routine meets hygiene standards and supports optimal cow comfort.

Encouraging Reluctant Cows

Some cows may be hesitant at first. Gently guiding a reluctant cow into the stall and keeping her there for a short time encourages her to lie down and experience the comfort of DCC Waterbeds. Once cows try it, they quickly make the switch.
